A complete cast copper-alloy thimble dating to the late Medieval or early Post-Medieval period, c. 1450-1550. It demonstrates a circular basal plan, with sloping sides that culminate in a tonsured crown with a small central circular dimple at the very apex of the object. The sides of the thimble demonstrate thirteen courses of somewhat irregular hand-stamped dimples, some of which appear to have broken through the metal itself. At the very base of the thimble underneath the first row, a double circumferential groove is visible. Preserved in good condition with an even greenish patina, it stands 17.92mm high, 19.14mm in diameter at its base, 1.07mm thick at the walls, and weighs 3.12g.
A broadly similar thimble has been recorded on the PAS database as WAW-CEF0B1, though in this example there is no hole in the crown. Thimbles of this form are usually assigned a later Medieval to early Post-Medieval date.
