Two sherds of Roman samian ware vessel, dating from the 2nd Century AD.
1- A rim sherd. The sherd in an irregular pentagon shape, and has a slight curve in profile. The fragment is hard, with a pink orange core, the exterior is a glossy red colour created with the slip coating. The exterior is decorated with moulded relief which starts near the worn break of the fragment. There is a horizontal indentation border, with a border of three inverted arches which most likely runs round the vessel in a repeated border. Above the the borders are circular indentations, this is probably air bubbles from firing. On the reverse there is no decoration. The sherd measures 51.3mm by 45.00, is 6.6mm in thickness at the rim, and weighs 14.11g.
2- A body sherd. The sherd is rectangular in shape. The fragment is hard, with a pink orange core, the exterior is a glossy red colour created with the slip coating. There is no decoration on the sherd. It measures 19.6mm by 12.2mm, and is 5.1mm thick. It weighs 1.60g.
