A decorated lead spindle whorl, probably of Medieval to Post Medieval date, about AD 1100 - 1600. It is damaged and distorted. It is flattened bi-conical in form, with a wide median band (Walton Rogers Form C). Both faces have traces of decoration in the form of raised pellets. The central aperture is sub-circular and has a diameter of 8mm. Walton Rogers (in the Flixborough volume and York Fasicules) suggests that biconical whorls date from AD 1100 onwards and cites Ivens et al (1995) that those with dots are Post Medieval. It is oval in shape and is 35.6mm long, 32.3mm wide and 9.4mm thick. it weighs 43.79gm.
