A possibly complete lead-alloy weight of probable Early-Medieval date, c.AD 800 - 1000. The object is circular in plan with a plano-convex section. The domed surface is decorated with a moulded cross. The flat surface has raised rim framing a sub-circular depression. Faint marks around the edge of the depression suggest a coin may have been originally fitted into the object.
The metal has a light brown/white patina. The object is 21.8mm x 22.4mm x 12.8mm and weighs 22.8g.
Lead weights with copper alloy coins pressed into a central perforation were common in the Viking period from 9th - 10th century.
