Silver spoon. A cast teaspoon with a rounded and slightly turned up end to its terminal, a narrow stem [bent] and an oval bowl, now flattened. Hallmarks appear on the underside of the handle as follow: leopard within a rectangular panel with cut corners; a letter M in antique style in a similar panel; a king's profile right; and a smaller symbol resembling a tiny key in its own panel, probably a maker's mark rather than from the assay office. This may indicate Newcastle 1802 though the series of marks appears incomplete. Between the last stamp and the end of the handle the letters A S, seriffed, have been scratched as an informal owner's mark. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1800-1830.

Length (as found): 76mm, Width: 23mm, Thickness (stem): 1.8mm, Weight: 9.23gms
