An incomplete knapped and polished flint axehead dating to the Neolithic period, c. 4000-2500 BC. The butt and midsection are missing in an oblique patinated break, with only the lower body and cutting edge preserved extant. Deep negative flaking on both sides of the axe close to this break suggests this may have resulted from use. Demonstrating a rectangular section and slightly expanding flat sides, the axe has been manufactured on a piece of greyish flint which has now in places patinated to an off-white mottled with blue. Considerable iron staining on both faces marks the location on both faces of lengthy deposition in watery contexts as well as strikes from agricultural machinery. The cutting edge is somewhat irregular as a result of recent unpatinated edge damage. Preserved in fair condition with only some patination, it survives to a maximum length of 83.81mm, 60.75mm wide at the cutting edge, 29.89mm thick at its midpoint, and weighs 180.14g.
