An incomplete cast copper-alloy hooked tag dating to the Early Medieval period, c. 900-1100. This example corresponds to Read's class A, type 2. It demonstrates a sub-circular body that tapers at its back edge to form a thinned hook, the lower portion of which is missing in old damage. The body itself demonstrates seven punched decorative ring-dot motifs on its upper surface, arranged 3/3/1. Each of these demonstrates a small aperture at its midpoint, though those on the left hand and right hand motifs on the front row are enlarged and clearly designed to function as sewing holes. Preserved in good condition with an even green patina, it survives to a length of 28.87mm, the body 14.79mm wide by 0.55mm thick at its midpoint. It weighs 0.88g.
Though no exact parallel could be found for this fastener, it is broadly similar to a number published by Read (2008) see p. 19, nos. 86-87.
