STRAP FITTING

A complete copper-alloy strap fitting of medieval date, c.AD 1200 - 1400. The fitting comprises two rectangular sheets joined by four rivets; one in each corner. A larger perforation is present through the centre of each sheet. The plates are undecorated and a piece of material, possibly leather survives within the plates.

The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The fitting is 36.6mm long, 32.3mm wide, 5.2mm thick and weighs 17.7g.
