An incomplete copper-alloy button of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1600 - 1700. The button is discoidal with a flat section. The front surface is decorated with a cross formed of five ring and dot motifs with engrailed outer edges and a veined leaf in each quadrant. The remains of a separate iron shank can be seen at the centre of the reverse.
The metal has a dark green patina and is in fair condition. The button is 16.4mm in diameter, 2mm thick, 4.2mm with shank and weighs 2.9g.
A similar example is illustrated in Read (2010) p.103, no.415 and is described as being from a 17th century context.
