An incomplete 14th-15th cast copper alloy single-loop buckle of composite type with forked spacer. The pin is missing. The frame is a quarter-circle in cross-section, and has a projecting point at the centre externally with a small groove forming a pin rest behind, on the internal edge. The junction of the frame and spacer plate is marked by a tranverse bulge against which the external plates fitted.
The spacer plate consists of two short tapering forks cast in one with the frame, one of which is complete; the other has the tip of the prong broken off. It is an old break. There are traces of silvering on both faces of the prongs, this probably represents the solder that held the external plates to the spacer..
The object measures 32.00mm in length, 27.5mm in width. Thickness varies around the circumference of the frame from 3.4mm to 2.5mm. Weight is 7.4g.
Composite buckles with forked spacer plates are generally dated to the mid 14th to early 15th centuries (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 80).
