A pedestal foot from a Roman ceramic vessel.

Description: The object is a circular pedestal foot from a small flask or beaker of Roman date. The outer base of the pedestal is flat. There are fragments of the body of the vessel which flare outwards from the pedestal with a concave base to the inside of the vessel. The walls of the vessel are 9.87mm thick. The vessel is oxidised orange on the outer surfaces with a reduced, very dark grey core. Much of the outer surface has been lost throgh abrasion. The fabric is fine-grained with frequent quartz inclusions of less than 0.5mm and very sparse inclusions of quartz between 0.5mm and 1mm in diameter. Lines around the vessel suggest that it was wheel-thrown.

Measurements: Diameter 53.67mm, height 19.19mm, weight 51.24

Discussion: This form of pedestal base appears amongst both Romano-British vessels, termed beakers, and also among native imitations of Roman vessel forms.
