Medieval copper alloy strap fitting, Length: 24 mm, width: 27 mm, thickness: 7 mm, weight: 9.8 g.
The object is part of a two sectioned swivel fitting and consists of a circular cross sectioned D shaped loop. Each of the flat 'corners' of the D shape are formed by an aminal head with an incised line indicating the start of its neck sitting behind a rounded upper head which has a projecting curved muzzle, gripping the end of a circular cross sectioned, oval shaped loop. This and one half of the loops interior is filled with iron corrosion, suggesting that an iron rod once held the two portions together. A complete example has been recorded here YORYM-E84B74
