Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable late Medieval or Post Medieval date (1250 - 1700). The weight is sub-circular in plan and a globular triangular (pyramidal) shaped in profile. The sides are curved and taper from a wide base to a relatively blunt point. The weight is undecorated. A sub-circular hole has been cast through the centre; from the upper edge to the base. This hole (diameter: 6.0mm) would have allowed the weight to be suspended or aided storage. An iron nail - or bar - has pierced or been cast within the weight horizontally. The weight is a mid white buff colour with a relatively even and corroded patina that covers all surfaces. A light active powdery corrosion product is present on all surfaces. A direct parallel for this weight has not been found. It is most likely to date from the later medieval or post medieval periods.
The weight measures 53.0mm in diameter and is 61.4mm high. It weighs 1126.2 grams or 39.7 ozs. (2 1/2 lbs)
