Late medieval or early post-medieval copper alloy harbick (or havette, or shear-board hook), a double-ended hook, rectangular-sectioned chamfered edges, central grip comprises a rectangular expansion (6mm x 5mm) the outer and upper faces with a saltire between six transverse notches. The slightly bowed arms taper to an acutely-angled sharp-hooked terminal. Length 55mm. 3mm thick. Cf. Read (2008), Class A, Type 1, no.743. Harbicks were used 'for securing cloth to the cropping board or horse during the process of shearing the nap' (Goodall, I. and Keene, K. in Biddle (1990, 239). 15th - 16th century.
