SCRAPER (TOOL)

Unique ID: DEV-CCADC3

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A flint scraper of probable Late Neolithic date, c. 3,300-2400 BC. The tool has been worked from a secondary flake of opaque brown-grey flint, with cortex covering c. 30% of the dorsal face. One large negative removal scar appears in the center of the dorsal face, with prominent conchoidal ripples and hackles. The striking platform and bulb of percussion has been removed by retouch, which is exhibtied around the perimeter of the flake of the dorsal face. At the proximal end this is short, scalar and semi abrupt. Retouch is long and abrupt on the right and distal edges, with an area of stepped, semi-abrupt, long retouch on the right edge.

Dimensions: Length: 29.2mm; Width: 26.2mm; Thickness: 9.5mm; Weight: 9.86g.

Part of a small assemblage of flint found in the same area, containing an incomplete plano-convex knife (DEV-100D63) and oblique arrowhead (DEV-CD9A31) suggesting a late Neolithic date range. See also: DEV-CC5126, DEV-10962A, DEV-CDDFD5, DEV-CCF8F4.
