A fragment of a Roman cast copper alloy brooch, probably Hod Hill type, dating to 1st century AD. The item consists of the upper part of the bow . It is 24.50mm in length, 8.61mm in width and weighs 1.85g.
The bow is a flattish D in section, with an early break where the bow flares outwards towards the rolled cylindrical head of this type of brooch. Just a little of this remains. Below this feature is a transverse collar and the main part of the bow is decorated with three parallel longitudinal ridges . Below this is a further raised collar and at this point is another early break. There are signs of tinning on the outer surface.
