A worn, abraded and warped probable post-Medieval cast lead or lead-alloy circular biface token (c. 1500-c. 1850).
Description: The token is relatiely small with a stylised outline of a human head on one side and the ligated letters 'HC' on the other.
Measurements: 13.21mm in diameter, 1.71mm thick and 1.22g in weight.
Discussion: Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. The bus ton this example seems likely to be medieval or post-medieval in date
The Powell classification system, in which there are over 30 categories, attempts to classify these leaden tokens according to the designs featured on each face, but it does not assign any chronology. in this classifcation it would be 10/2 (10 being busts or head and 2 for initials)
