Medieval to Post Medieval (15th to 16th century) scabbard chape: The front plate remains of a cast copper alloy composite chape. The plate is an elongated sub-triangle in plan and 'n' shaped in section. At the lower tip of the chape is a small knop. The upper edge has a sub-'W' shape. There is a single transverse ridge across the outer face, close to the upper edge. The reverse is undecorated and the lower portion of the chape has traces of a back plate. The chape has traces of a mottled dark green patina. The chape measures 50.52mm in length, 27.92mm width, and is 5.69mm thick. It weighs 14.14 grams.

Similar composite chapes have been dated to the later medieval and early-post medieval period. The size of this one suggests that it would probably have been for a dagger rather than a sword. A similar example has been recorded from Herefordshire (HESH-8DB566).
