A fragment of a copper alloy rotary Key of Medieval date (AD 1100-1500). The bow and handle are missing due to an old abraded break. The retained portion of stem above the bit is a flattened oval in cross section with a concave end. The bit is rectangular. It has rectangular section wards in both the leading and trailing edges creating an "S" shape and the lower section of the bit has six, shallow, vertical wards.
The metal is a light green in colour with a slightly pitted patina.
Length: 33.21mm, Width (bow): 8.49mm, Thickness (bit): 5.17mm, Weight: 25.2g.
