Incomplete Roman copper alloy Colchester Derivative Fantail Foot brooch of Mackreth's (2011) Chapter 3, Type 7.d. The lower bow, foot and catchplate are missing. The C-shaped wing case exhibits traces of solder on one side to help anchor the missing spring. Projecting from the centre of the head is the stub of the rearhook. The upper bow arches back from the head and then flares into the fantail shaped lower bow, terminating in an old break. The upper bow exhibits two opposed crescentic recesses and is divided from the lower bow by a crescentic groove. The lower bow exhibits traces of two diverging grooves.
