A small medieval metal 'hedgehog' mount of copper alloy. The object is shaped almost like a fan or a truncated ping-pong racket, though the overall form is considered to be zoomorphic and to be a representation of the head of a spined animal. Other examples with much more clearly bestial features have been recorded on the database, but thisn particular example is quite abstract. One side is convex and deeply cross-hatched to form crude diamond shapes, representing fur or spines, with a smooth, rounded knop below them functioning as a nose.
The other is concave and has a projection roughly at its centre about 1mm in length.
Similar examples of crude version of this mount can be found at LEIC-E45175 , SF-420936, and NLM-DB02A8
An Example of a finer type can be found at DUR-CE125C
