A fragment of a medieval, coarse ware, ceramic bung hole pitcher, jug or cistern (c. 1350-c. 1450).
Description: The fragment consists of a complete bunghole, the area around the hole thickened and proud of the surface, with a small fragment of body sherd still attached. There are distinct finger or thumb marks around the hole where the clay has been worked. There are splashes of light green glaze on the outer surface. The outside is an oxidised orange colour with some grey mottling on the inner surface. It has a reduced grey core. The fabric is fine-grained with sparse inclusions of quartz less than 0.5mm in diameter..
