A Roman body sherd of a New Forest slipped fine white ware, dating to AD c.300-400. The fabric is pale, sandy and highly-fired, the colour coating a dark orange in colour. An incomplete white ring containing a white leaf motif (vertical upright with parallel diagonal strokes to either side) has been painted close to the edge.
The sherd measures 63.6x43.5x5.2mm and weighs 17.48g.
Jane Timby comments, '[this is] a fine white ware from the New Forest industry with a slipped finish and painted design on top. It looks like it is probably from a flagon (Fulford 1975 type 1-10) which date to the 4th century' (pers. comm. August 2018).
