An incomplete copper-alloy object, possibly a folding knife handle or a miniature vessel leg, of Roman date. The lower half of the object has the form of a human foot and lower leg. However, at the knee the leg arches forwards, reaching a millimetre or two beyond the forward tip of the foot. At what appears to be the apex of the arch, the piece terminates in a worn break. The lower leg is fairly naturalistic in shape with an oval cross-section. The foot is sub-rectangular in plan, with rounded toe and heel, flat on the base and convex on top. The arched upper part of the leg is triangular in cross-section, with a flat rear face and a central ridge running along the front. The transition from the lower to the upper parts is delineated by a straight ridge - a subtle change in surface level, which when viewed from the side, runs at about a 30 degree angle to the horizontal, from the top of the calf at the back, to a point a quarter of the way up the arch.
The piece has a green patina. It measures 32.9mm in height and 5.9mm in width. The thickest part of the lower leg is 6.3mm, while the thickest section of the arched part is 5.2mm. The foot is 10.1mm long, 4.7mm wide and 3.3mm high. The piece weighs 5.73g.
