A cast Post Medieval copper alloy double-loop asymmetrical shoe buckle frame. AD. 1575-1700. The frame has a flat base and a convex profile in cross-section. The shape of the frame is sub-rectangular and it has a central, narrowed and recessed strap bar. The pin is missing, together with any plate or strap. The rectangular loop has a trefoil shaped outer edge with a single transverse moulded groove along its length. The rounded end of the frame has a transverse moulded groove following the curve of the outer edge and four engraved oblique lines from the outside edge to the inside edge of the frame in the area where the pin would have rested. It has a reddish brown patina.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates a very similar examples on page 91, 572.
The buckle measures 21.5mm long, 16.6mm wide at the widest point. It is1.5mm thick and weighs 1.7 grams.
