Cast copper alloy Post Medieval sword hanger, circa AD 1500 - 1700. The fitting is a sub rectangular plate which has a broken trilobed terminal at each end and bi-concave long sides. Three loops descend from one long edge of the plate, one still has part of the associated hanger looped through it. The plate contains a rivet hole in the centre and one in the middle of each terminal (one broken). Moulded floral and foliage decoration covers the face of the object. The reverse side is flat but not smooth and the rivet holes are prominently countersunk. The object has a dusty green patina with approximately 50% of surface 'silvering' still remaining. It is 68mm long, 30mm wide and 4.1mm thick. Weight 20.02g. The remains of the attached hanger is max. 25mm long and max 12mm wide. A good parallel is SWYOR-ECB357 on this database.
