A corroded and incomplete copper-alloy Trumpet brooch dating to the mid to late first century AD. The brooch possesses a a characteristic trumpet head, which conceals a circular loop which would have held the pin in place. The head extends to a short, arched, circular-section bow. At the mid-bow point is an acanthus leaf moulding flanking a central disc. Beyond this, the leg is hemispherical in section and tapers to a point. Only a small portion of the catchplate survives. The brooch measures 44mm in length, 13mm in width and weighs 9g.
Class: Trumpet, Group Aii (Bayley and Butcher 2004) undecorated, the spring held on a single lug, but the waist-moulding flat at back.
