Lead bag seal. The mangled and partly melted relict of a bag seal, bearing traces of two or three lines of stamped text on one side. What remains appears as: [--]?N / [--]ROS[-] / [-]VI[-] - though this is emphatically an impression rather than a reading. Linear marks on the other side may be imprints from coarsely woven sacking. The size of characters and their arrangement may points to a customs seal from the Russian end of the Baltic trade, providing hemp and other agricultural commodities. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1812-1848.
