Unique ID: NLM-1053BE

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Copper alloy mount. Cast concavo-convex oval hollow mount with a pair of integrally cast sub-triangular prongs of length 19mm projecting from either end. The display face bears a star motif of eight straight rays with three or more smaller wiggling rays between them; under low magnification all the lines appear rendered in rocker work. Some of the straight rays are divided into triangular figures at their ends, before they meet a linear border. The star and border retain gilding. The prongs are now bent back to lie alongside each other behind the object. Probably for attachment to leather. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1650.

Length: 21.5mm, Width: 19.0mm, Height (i.e. protrusion, clear of prongs): 3.8mm, Thickness (wall of mount): 0.8mm, Weight: 4.02gms
