A complete cast copper alloy single loop folding strap clasp with a separate plate of medieval date. The clasp has a sub-rectangular framewith rounded terminals and thin linear ribs on the arms as a form of simple decoration. The clasp has a strap plate formed from a single sheet of copper alloy which has been wrapped around one thin end of the clasp buckle and is secured by a single rivet, which would also have secured the strap in place. At the opposing end is the strap clasp itself, again a single sheet of copper alloy wrapped around the front end of the clasp buckle with a projecting section with trilobed terminal and additional lentoid mount secured to it, known as a 'folding closure'. This section would have swivelled in to place to secure a metal strap end that was pushed into the frame and locked in place. This type of fastener was never fitted with a pin, like a buckle, but performed many of the same functions. AD 1300-1450.
