An incomplete copper alloy saddle pommel of late medieval or early post-medieval (1400-1600AD), only the hollow cup (or slipper) of which survives. The object sub-circular at the mouth and tapers to form a wedge shaped profile. There are vertical lines on both the front and back of the object. It is possible the object may originally have been tinned (or silvered). The front of the object is damaged. The curving backplate is missing, but there are traces of a central rivet hole that would have been used to fasten the object to the saddle.
