Copper alloy brooch. A tiny cast Polden Hill brooch, Mackreth type CD PH ?4, with very short wings with integral sides which retain an axis bar for a spring of three or four coils, the spring case being open behind. It is possible that a rearward facing hook has been lost from the top of the case. The plain bow itself is of D section, tapering towards what may stand for a diminutive pedestal foot. The finder wonders, with some justification, what might have been fastened by such a small brooch. Suggested date: Early Roman, 75-125
