Part of a cast copper alloy dress fastener, the blunt-hooked clasp dating from the Post-medieval period, from the 17th century, Read Class A, Type 2. The central section is oval in plan and convex in profile with an incised floriate design of stems with stylised flowers of annulets within a border of annulets. The stubs of three broken attachment loops remain, one at the apex oooposite the hook and one on either side of the base at the junction with the hook. The hook is rectangular in plan and slightly tapering as it curves forward and upward from the clasp. This hook would have slotted into a rectangular eye in the opposing hasp which would have had similar decoration on its upper face.

Read (2008) illustrates similar dress fasteners, from Dorset and Devon, on page 169, nos.630-631, which are classified as Class A, Type 2.
