Incomplete cast copper alloy double-looped trapezoidal buckle frame with openwork decoration in three pieces. The remains are half of the actual original buckle, with part of the decorative frame missing. The trapezoidal loop is attached to a rectangular loop, divided by the strap bar which is missing its pin and possible chape. The edge of the frame on the inside of the rectangular loop is slightly convex to allow for the movement of the pin around the central bar. The frame then expands into a cluster of seven openwork circles within a curved scalloped section which would have originally been round and borders two larger broken circles within. The diameter of the complete buckle estimated to be about 66 mm.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar trapezoidal buckle with extensive openwork panelling on p.85, no.536, which he dates from c.1620-1680.
