A iron and intaglio finger ring dating to the second or third century AD. The finger ring possesses an oval hoop which is D-shaped in section and expands significantly to wide shoulders. It has an integral setting for an intaglio which is in situ. The intaglio appears to be made from dark blue or black glass. The intaglio was originally engraved with motif. However, there is damage to the intaglio making it difficult to discern the exact nature of this motif. The damage may be deliberate. The internal diameter of the finger ring is 20mm. The external diameter is 25mm. The height of the finger ring is 23mm. The finger ring is of Guiraud's Type 2d (Guiraud 1989, 181). She notes that in Gaul, finger rings of this type are found from the first century onwards in southern Gaul and throughout the second and third century in north eastern Gaul. Iron finger rings of this type are mostly frequently found in forts on the limes. 29% of examples of this type are made from iron (Guiraud 1989, 181).
