The handle from a post-Medieval 'fob' seal matrix (c. 1700-c. 1800).
This handle is made of sheet copper-alloy. The main body is possibly folded and has an openwork design on both sides. The design forms a shell motif which fans out towards the frame. The suspension loop at the top appears to have been soldered. The four lower knops were originally attached to the frame which held and intaglio.
The handle is reddish brown and has flecks of gilding.
Length: 22.6mm; width: 18.8mm; thickness: 6.1mm. Weight: 3.56g.
Compare with a seal matrix incorporating a similar shell motif: SUSS-890FC2.
