An incomplete and corroded copper-alloy bow brooch of Colchester Derivative rearhook type, dating to the Roman period, c. 43-100 AD. The spring and pin are missing as well as the rearhook itself, though otherwise the object is preserved intact. It demonstrates a hemi-spherically sectioned winged head, at the midpoint of which on its rear face would originally have been a rearward-facing hook. The wings themselves are short and stubby, with no decoration visible. The bow is 'D' shaped in section and plain except for a prominent ridge running down its midpoint. At the foot of the brooch projecting from its rear face is the catchplate, though now somewhat abraded. Preserved in poor condition with an uneven greenish patina, it measures 31.63mm in length, 15.13mm wide at the head, and 2.78mm thick at the midpoint of the bow. It weighs 4.41g.
