Copper-alloy pin head of early medieval date (c. 800 - 900 AD). The pin head is very worn and the original surface is largely obscured. The pin head is largely globular in shape with a flat top and facetted sides. The object has a patchy green and brown patina. It is 11.30mm in length with a diameter of 7.88mm. It weighs 2.55g.
Pins of this type have been found in strong contexts dating to the early medieval period. This type is typical of the ninth century. See West, A Corpus of Anglo-Saxon Material from Suffolk, p. 246, fig. 128, no. 5; Haldenby, Early Medieval Collared Pins, Datasheet 44.
