Complete rounded flint scraper, dating within the period from the Mesolithic to the Bronze Age (c. 10000 - 1600 BC). The flint is broadly triangular in plan. The ventral face is flat and smooth, with an angled lozenge-shaped striking platform at the proximal end and a shallow bulb of percussion below it. The dorsal face is convex and retains much of its cortex. It has short, semi-abrupt retouch covering 75% of its distal end and sides on the dorsal face and short, semi-abrupt retouch along the proximal edge on the ventral face. It is possible that these represent two periods of retouch and use. The flint is dark grey mottled with white. It is 34.74mm in length, 33.50mm in width and 10.20mm in thickness. It weighs 11.69g.
Flint scrapers of this form are fairly ubiquitous and consequently difficult to date without context. Similar examples have been dated from the Mesolithic to the Bronze Age, eg, KENT-B8882D, SWYOR-1DB0FB and PUBLIC-AA7014.
