A perforated lead weight of unknown date. It is cylindrical and stands upright, though slightly angled. There is a small circular hole running longitudinally but off-centre through the weight, with a diameter of 2.4mm. The weight is slightly wider at one end than the other. It has rounded corners and a hollow in the base cuased by the lead shrinking as it cooled. It is 18.1mm tall, 15.4mm diameter and 23.87g.
The simple nature of the weight and the narrow, off-centred hole suggests that it is probably a line weight, perhaps used for fishing or weighing down nets or snares, probably in the Medieval or Post Medieval period. However, the hole could be for a suspension loop, and the mass is fairly close to one once in the mercantile or avoirdupois systems, to one Roman uncia, and to one Viking eyrir or ore, making it impossible to date.
