An incomplete cast copper alloy finger ring, probably missing the integral pipe tamper, of 17th or 18th century date. The remaining section consists of the oval bezel of the finger ring and part of either side of the hoop; the lower section of the hoop of the ring, and the tamper, are now broken and missing. The bezel of the finger ring has a seal - an incised design which could be imprinted in to wax (for example) and act as a signature. The matrix has the letters I B either side of a vertical rod which has scrolled floreate (almost tree-like) tendrils extending from the top and bottom of the rod, enclosed in a linear border.
