One complete side plate of a copper alloy medieval (14th century) sub rectangular buckle plate. It has two round apertures equally spaced, where it was attached to the belt, but an additional hole close by which may have been a secondary fastening following the breakdown of the original. It is overall 41.15mm in length, 14.55mm in width and is straight sided with shaped end for insertion into buckle. It is one half of the whole chape and the face is decorated with numerous short lines or zig-zags placed in larger lines to form a crossed pattern.. The underside of the plate is rough and unfinished, it bears some evidence of the matching back face which is missing. .56mm thick, It weighs 3.2g.
Similar example is illustrated by Egan and Pritchard (1991, 132-133) No.611.
