A fragment of wheel thrown ceramic vessel of Roman date c. AD 43 - 410, likely a small mica dusted greyware jar dating to the period c. AD 125 - 300.

Description: The vessel survives only as a rim sherd and part of the neck of the jar. The sherd is very curved and the rim is angular and flat upright which would create a narrow mouth for this vessel. The sherd has mixed variably spaced inclusions of small grit and quartz and common specks of mica dusting. The sherd is unoxidised on the outer surface being a dark grey the inner surface is much brighter and whiter. The sherd likely relates to a small narrow mouthed small jar..

Measurements: 52.02mm wide. 30.42mm high, 10.2mm thick (inc rim, 5.39mm thick without rim) and 10.16g in weight.

Class: Greyware
