An incomplete copper alloy Roman Colchester deriviative bow brooch dating to AD 43-100. The lower part of the bow, catchplate and pin are missing (but some iron corrosion can be seen) The brooch measures 28.3mm in length, 47.2mm wide and weighs 17.22 grams.
The wings are circular in cross section (5.7mm in diameter) with knops at both ends The bow is D shaped and tapers from 14.7mm to 8.0mm wide at the break. The upper bow is decorated with incised grooves possibly chevrons, the remainder of the bow to the break appears to be undecorated.
