Lead spindle whorl. Cast plano-convex whorl with a larger and a smaller flat face, a gently curved rim around the former, and with a moulded central aperture of diameter 7.6mm, Walton Rogers form A2. Patinated. Deep nicks and odd casting flaws give the misleading impression of decoration; patinated overall. The spindle size would admit a Middle Saxon date while the mass may indicate a primary function spinning a yarn. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 700-850.
