A lead alloy post-medieval button possibly dating to the late 16th to 18th century. The button is decorated with a skull and crossbones with small pellets making up the background; the crossbones are situated above the skull. The button appears to have been circular originally but has lost fragments on either side of the skull. Mould line on the back with a short stem and and complete oval loop. Length 27.05mm, width 24.13mm and weight 4.60g.
The design is similar to the Death's Head badge worn by the 17th Dragoons, initially formed in 1759 and Captain Holtby of the Queen's Royal Lancers Museum says that it may be an early example of a 17th Dragoon's uniform button.
