Incomplete post medieval copper alloy spur dating to the period c. AD 1600 - 1700. The rowel is missing, but the rowel box has traces of the iron pin in the attachment holes where the rowel would have fitted. The box has expanded and rounded terminals which curve upwards and narrow towards the short neck which is oval in section. Both arms are D-sectioned and terminate in old breaks.
Read (1988) illustrates a spur with a similar drooped and expanded rowel box, but with a longer neck, on page 157, no.1056, which is dated from c.1660-1750.
Margeson (1993) illustrates a similar spur on page 222, fig.170, no.1803, which dates from the second half of the 17th century.
