An early medieval copper alloy hooked tag dating to c AD 700-1125 (Read Class B, Type 2). The tag comprises a flat sheet of copper alloy which has been cut with a flat top which is then indented slightly at the sides before expanding into a sub-circular tag. At the bottom of the tag, there is a small angular collar and from the centre of this the sharp pointed hook extends down and is curled round at the end. The plate of the tag is decorated with five incised 'ring and dot' motifs (there is a central motif with four placed evenly round. The two motifs at either side of the central motif have a hole pierced all the way through the 'dot' possibly accidentally. At the top of the tag two attachment holes have been pierced and each decorated with a ring around. The back of the tag is undecorated but has the marks of the 'dots' stamped on the front The patina is a rich dark green. The hooked tag weighs 1.13g and measures 28.59mm in length, 16.17mm in width and 0.68mm in thickness. Cf Read, B, 2008, Hooked-Clasps & Eyes, Portcullis Publishing, Langport, p22, no 100.
