Fragment from the side of a Roman South Gaulish (La Graufesenque) industry Samian plate or bowl probably of form 18/31, dating to the late 1st century, AD 90-110 (Webster 1996:33-35). The fabric is medium hard fired, bright pinkish-red, non-micaceous, with fairly abundent very fine white inclusions. The surface slip is a dark red. The remaining section is part of the stongly curved upper part of the wall with a beaded rim. Just above the lower break there is a distinct carination to a more shallow angled side wall. A line on the inner face also marks this change. The side is at least 28.9mm tall and the sherd has worn breaks on all sides apart from the top edge. The sherd weighs 11.86g.
