DEBITAGE

Unique ID: DEV-C0D6FD

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Four pieces of flint debitage, probably dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age. The assemblage can be divided into two groups: the first group contains a single secondary flake of translucent dark brown-grey flint, with sandy cortex covering c. 20% of the dorsal face, at the distal end. The striking platform survives at the proximal end, with a relatively diffuse bulb of percussion, although exhibiting a bulbar scar. Two sub-parallel removal scars are present on the dorsal face, struck from opposing directions. The second group consists of three tertiary flakes: two of a similar mottled grey flint with sandy inclusions, and a third of a slightly translucent beige flint. The bulb of percussion survives on only a single flake, where it is large and slightly hinged, suggesting the use of a hard hammer, although all three exhibit relatively pronounced, closely-spaced conchoidal ripples on the ventral face. The flakes all exhibit sub-parallel removal scars, all struck from the same direction.

Overall weight of assemblage: 12.77g.

Notes:

Part of a larger assemblage of worked flint, all from the same area, which appears to consist of Late Neolithic to Bronze Age flint work (scrapers: DEV-C1B72F, DEV-C34B3E, DEV-C3AF12, DEV-C40E91).
